Myth 1:
Putting toothpaste on your pimples
will help get rid of them.
Using toothpaste will actually dry out and irritate skin. There
are much more effective acne-specific products available to
help clear up pimples.
Myth 2:
You don’t need to use a
moisturiser if you have oily skin.
Your skin needs moisture to function at its best. Even oily skin can have low moisture levels. That’s why it’s important to use a moisturiser no matter what your skin condition is. For oily skin, make sure you use a moisturiser that’s oil-free and non-comedogenic (won’t clog pores).
Myth 3:
Stress doesn't cause pimples.
Episodes of increased stress can often be linked to new or worse
pimple breakouts.
Myth 4:
Sweating from playing sport and exercise causes acne.
This is incorrect, however we recommend cleansing your face
with a good cleanser if your skin is hot and sweaty after exercise.
Myth 5:
Water alone is the best for facial cleansing.
Water is not very effective when it comes to removing surface oils, make-up, dirt and bacteria.
Myth 6:
Junk foods like chocolate, hot chips and pizza cause pimples.
In fact, no scientific studies have ever proven that certain foods bring on pimple breakouts. However, your skin does depend on nutrients to maintain itself in good condition so try to eat a well-balanced diet high in fruit and vegetables for good health and well-being. However, having a balanced diet alone, won’t 'cure' pimples or prevent breakouts.
Myth 7:
Make-up won't make pimples worse.
Some make-up can make pimples worse and even cause breakouts, particularly oil-based foundations. An oil-free or silicone-based foundation is better for people with pimple-prone skin.
Myth 8:
Sunlight or going to the solarium can help get rid of acne.
Exposure to the sun can actually worsen acne. Excessive sun exposure is also very bad for your skin and may lead to premature wrinkles, skin growths, skin cancers and other signs of aging. While some people with pimple prone skin may notice a small improvement to their skin over summer, the benefits of additional exposure to sunlight are minor at best, while the risks are very significant. |
